16 new dengue cases reported from Bhubaneswar | Bhubaneswar News

BHUBANESWAR: The capital city has reported 16 new cases of dengue till Wednesday. With this, the total number of dengue cases touched 107 in the city this season. The health department has intensified awareness drives to prevent further spread of the disease.
Total number of dengue cases was 39 on July 8. As many as 68 cases have been added in a week. No death case has been reported this year, said an official source.
Antaryami Mishra, additional district urban public health officer (ADU-PHO) Bhubaneswar, said the 16 new dengue cases were detected in Niladri Vihar, Sailashree Vihar and other nearby localities. “A total of 107 cases have been reported from the city since January. Most of them have already recovered from the disease,” he added.
So far dengue cases have been reported from Chandrasekharpur, Sailashree Vihar, Niladri Vihar, Unit-VIII and other areas of the city. The public health officials and the Bhubaneswar municipal corporation (BMC) have started taking preventive measures in the area to control the disease.
“To avoid mosquito bites, use mosquito repellents, eliminate stagnant water, cover open water containers and use long lasting insecticidal nets while sleeping. Stay safe from dengue and malaria,” said an awareness message from the health and family welfare department.
The aedes aegypti, a mosquito which spreads dengue fever, can breed in clean water. These mosquitoes help in spreading dengue virus. So, the people should change the water stored in different containers for several days. “People are worried about the Covid-19 pandemic. Dengue has rubbed salt into their wound. People need to be more careful to stay safe during this season,” said a medical officer.
A public health official said people should change the water in the air cooler, water pot in the Puja room and the water container behind the refrigerator every day. Waste materials containing water should be removed from the localities, he added.
