972 bottles of liquor stolen from Tasmac shop near Coimbatore | Coimbatore News


COIMBATORE: Two unidentified men stole 972 bottles of liquor, worth Rs 1.73 lakh, from a Tasmac outlet at Sulur near Coimbatore in the early hours of Thursday.
The two men, who covered their faces with cloths, entered the Tasmac shop (No 1836) located on the Kalangal – Kangeyampalayam Road after putting a hole on the rear wall.
The theft came to light when the Sulur police, who were on night rounds, checked the liquor shop and found the hole on the wall. Immediately, they alerted higher officials who rushed to the spot. The police collected CTV footage from the shop.
Duo arrested for smuggling liquor
The Mettupalayam police arrested a truck owner and a truck driver for smuggling liquor from Karnataka.
The arrested have been identified as C Rajendran of Mettupalayam, who is the truck owner, and driver K Babu alias Muniyappan, 45.
The Mettupalayam police got a tip-off on Thursday morning that two men were smuggling liquor in a truck by hiding them in a load of paper. The truck was heading to Mettupalayam from Karnataka. The police stopped the truck and found 320 bottles of liquor worth Rs 1.14 lakh. The police seized the liquor and the truck.
