Delhi BJP seeks fixed electricity charges waiver for traders | Delhi News

NEW DELHI: In a letter to chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor has sought waiver of fixed electricity charges for the pandemic-hit traders and factory owners.
In his letter, Kapoor highlighted that traders, entrepreneurs, cinema, restaurant and hotel owners of Delhi are in financial distress due to the prolonged economic restrictions since March 2020.
“Trader bodies have been demanding reliefs but the Delhi government has ignored their demands till now. Though traders need several reliefs, but I would hereby like to draw your attention towards waiver of fixed charges in electricity bills. I request you to direct power discoms to waive off fixed charges for all traders and factory owners for April 2020 to June 2021,” Kapoor demanded.
Cinema, restaurants and hotels industries have been largely closed since April 2020 with very little business coming even when they briefly resumed business late last year.
“Their businesses are closed again for over two months and are unlikely to open for another month. The three segments need strong government support and as a preliminary relief I suggest that they be allowed waiver of fixed charges in electricity bills for entire financial year 2021-22,” Kapoor said.
