Facebook is bringing new filters to video calls for Instagram, Messenger


Social networking giant Facebook has announced that it is set to add support for AR-based filters during video calls soon.
The company will be adding this functionality for both Instagram and Messenger, it announced at its virtual F8 developer conference.
These apps have been offering support for AR effects for a long time, but the option to use them for a multiplayer setup during a live game or chat will be new.
At its F8 conference, the company said that it is going to allow “creators to build effects that deliver a coordinated experience across multiple call participants.”
“For example, effects could be designed to deliver a shared sense of space, like a hangout in space or around a campfire, or even support lightweight gameplay,” explained Facebook.

Another announcement from the company was regarding the opening up of the Messenger API for Instagram to all developers. This was in the beta testing case since October with a group of select businesses of all sizes and developers. Now, however, it is being globally rolled out.
Through these APIs, Facebook will make it easier for businesses to communicate with their customers through a common channel.
At its F8 developer conference, Facebook also announced a new feature — Login Connect with Messenger — that will allow people to opt into communicating with a business through the Messenger Platform from the Facebook Login flow.
“With this new feature, we’re helping businesses cultivate better relationships with their customers by providing stronger customer care and more tailored engagement through the Messenger Platform,” said the company.
