Google Messages may soon get this iMessage feature

NEW DELHI: Over the years, Google has introduced some interesting features in its default messaging app — Google Messages. Same as the Apple iMessage, the Messages app layers the age-old SMS protocol under a new internet-based platform called RCS (Rich Communication Services).
In order to further enhance the user experience, Google is working on a new feature for its messaging app. The company is working on adding the pinned chats feature to the app. The feature already exists in Apple iMessage and WhatsApp.
According to a code spotted by XDA Developers Google is working on the ability which will enable users to pin chats to the top of the app. XDA Developers found the code in the recent teardown of version 8.1.050 of the Google Messages APK. This is the stable version of the app which is presently running on the updated Android devices.
The report mentions that the app code refers to the action ‘Pin to top’ and ‘Unpin from top’. The feature is expected to allow pin three chats at a time. WhatsApp also allows you to pin three chats. Moreover, both iMessages and WhatsApp allow users to pin chats on the top.
Apart from this, XDA Developers also revealed that Google is also working on another feature that will enable users to ‘star’ a message. Again this is the same feature offered by WhatsApp. This feature helps in keeping track of the important messages which can be accessed under a separate section.
In other Google-related news, starting June 1, you will not be able to backup unlimited images of Google Photos. Late last year, Google announced a change in its storage policy for Google Photos. As per the new policy, the 15GB free storage that comes with every Google account will also include Google Photos. So far, the photos that users save in ‘high-quality’ are not counted in this 15GB.
