The HP Chromebook 11a was launched in India at the price of Rs. 21,990 and it is an affordable price even for students. But should you go out and buy it on a regular Windows laptop? Let’s find out in this review.
HP Chromebook 11a Review: Design and Build
HP designed the Chromebook not to make it look attractive or high-quality. In fact, this is where they save most of their costs because the Chromebook 11a has a plastic body. It makes it cheaper for manufacturers and also makes it lighter.
This 11-inch laptop weighs approximately 1 kilogram, making it easy to carry. Even if it is made of plastic, HP makes sure that it does not feel cheap. The build quality is good enough, and the blue looks very eye-catching.
As for the ports, the HP Chromebook 11a has a USB 2.0 Type-C port that can be used to charge the device and connect additional displays. It also has a USB 2.0 Type-A port, a microSD card slot, and a 3.5 mm audio combo jack. I do think the company should add a USB 3.0 port for a faster connection.
HP Chromebook 11a review: keyboard and trackpad
Although the notebook itself is compact, the keyboard does not feel too cramped. On the contrary, the keys are well-spaced, and typing on this keyboard is very pleasant It is not the best keyboard, but it can get the job done.
As for the touchpad, I think it has room for improvement. It doesn’t feel particularly smooth, and the surface area is small. This is an area that HP can improve with the successor to the Chromebook 11a.
HP Chromebook 11a review: display and audio
The HP Chromebook 11a is equipped with an 11.6-inch screen with a resolution of 1366×768. It is surrounded by a thick black border, which makes the notebook look dated. It also brings touch support to the table. Touch support definitely helps to interact with the UI.
The display becomes quite bright, but it is not the best in terms of color and saturation. Considering that laptops are mainly made for students who can take online courses, this shouldn’t be a problem.
In terms of audio output, the built-in speakers are not designed for watching movies. However, they are enough to listen to some music or watch a quick video tutorial. We recommend that you buy a pair of headphones for online courses or Bluetooth speakers for watching movies.
HP Chromebook 11a review: Performance
The HP Chromebook 11a is powered by a Mediatek MT8183 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM. It gets 64GB of eMMC memory for the operating system as well as offline files. When you buy this notebook, you also get 100 GB of Google Drive space for a year.
Although the specifications are low, Chromebook still manages to provide good performance due to the lightweight nature of ChromeOS. I did open a few Chrome tabs and some Android applications running in the background, and the laptop did manage to solve all of these issues. However, it is worth noting that any RAM or processor-intensive tasks will show signs of lag or stalling.
As mentioned above, the Chromebook 11a runs on Google’s ChromeOS, which is focused on online apps. The laptop did allow me to run all the Google services using Gmail, Google Docs, YouTube, and more. When using the notebook for online tasks, it made for a great experience.
HP Chromebook 11a Review: Battery Life
The HP Chromebook 11a is a portable laptop designed for online work. With this, it must provide a long battery life. Before the laptop needs more power, HP has managed to keep us using it continuously for at least 10 hours. This is impressive, and it will help students in class without worrying about chargers.
HP Chromebook 11a review: Verdict
The HP Chromebook 11a is an excellent portable notebook based on ChromeOS. Because it is not running Windows, it does have quite a few warnings. Users will not be able to use any Windows applications on this machine. However, if your work is mainly done on the Internet, this will be a good choice.
