India raises concerns over attacks on PIOs in South Africa | India News

NEW DELHI: India’s foreign minister S Jaishankar spoke to his South African counterpart Naledi Pandor about unrest in South Africa that has seen violence against Indian-origin people too, official sources said, adding that it was said to be a “cordial and open conversation”.
Separately, sources said, MEA secretary Sanjay Bhattacharya met the high commissioner of South Africa to India, Joel Sibusiso Ndebele, and expressed reservations about the issue. “South African side assured that their government was doing its utmost to enforce law and order… They expected the situation to improve soon,” said a source on condition of anonymity. “Regarding reports of arson and looting against Indians and Indian-origin South Africans, the South African side conveyed that opportunistic elements were taking advantage of the situation to engage in violence,” he added.
