While Indian cuisine is known for its spicy curries and delectable sabzis, it is also popular for its delectable breads ( naan, rotis, paranthas and buns). And let’s admit it, no Indian meal is complete without roti/naan. The love for the humble roti is so much that every region has its kind. With a variety of options like tandoori roti, khameeri roti, jaadi roti, baida roti and whatnot, today we bring you another new type of roti all the way from Kashmir region – Kashmiri roti (also known as girda roti).
This fluffy and soft bread is usually cooked in an underground tandoor and enjoyed with tea. But since most of us won’t have the facility of a tandoor, we bring you a simpler version to make this roti easily at your home.
How To Make Girda Roti (Kashmiri Roti) | Girda Roti Recipe:
First, take a bowl and add flour, salt and baking soda; mix it well together. Then add ghee and yoghurt and combine to form a soft dough. Then put in the yeast and water mix. When the dough is ready, brush it with some oil and keep it aside for three hours. After that, when the dough rises because of the yeast, knead it for another minute and roll it out in form of a roti.
Preheat the oven to a high temperature and put in your roti. Before that, brush it with milk and sprinkle poppy seeds on top. Place it on the preheated tray, and cook on medium heat for about 3-4 minutes. Cook till the roti is golden brown and looks toasted.
When your roti is ready, enjoy it with tea or any curry or sabzi!
