NEW DELHI: Leica, the premium segment camera manufacturer is looking to partner with a new smartphone manufacturer.
Citing inside sources, GSMArena reported that the Huawei-Leica partnership is coming to an end. The Huawei P50 will be the last smartphone of the company to come with a Leica-powered camera.
Quoting a series of tweets by a tipster, GSMArena reported that with the end of this partnership, Leica is looking for a new smartphone maker. The report also adds that the camera manufacturer is considering going to Xiaomi, Honor or Sharp.
The partnership between Leica and Huawei began in 2016 with the launch of the company’s Huawei P9 smartphone. Leica contributed towards image processing, camera module design and UI design for the smartphone.
So, it will be interesting to see who will be the next smartphone to partner with Leica.
Recently, another smartphone maker, OnePlus also partnered with Hasselblad for its OnePlus 9 series of smartphones. All three OnePlus 9 series smartphones come with a Hasselblad powered camera setup.
Meanwhile, the latest report by research firm Strategy Analytics revealed that Huawei is no longer on the list of top five smartphone companies globally.
The report shows that the company is no longer on the list and was taken down by rivals from the same country. Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo now find themselves on the third, fourth and fifth spot respectively.
Vivo witnessed the highest overall annual growth of 85%, followed by Xiaomi that grew by 80% as compared to the first quarter of 2020.
