Sharmishtha’s mother Rekha Dutta, is a teacher at Anglo Bengali Inter College of the city and her father, Shanko Dutta owns a business. She did her intermediate from St. Mary’s Convent in 2015 after which she completed her BA-LLB integrated Law from Symbiosis Law School, Pune in 2020.
Sharmishtha, 23-year-old, said that it is a matter of great pride for her as a girl that she has been selected for the defense service of the country. After training at Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, she would be joining as Lieutenant in the Indian Army.
“Serving the Nation is a matter of honor for everyone and Indian armed forces gives us an opportunity to protect the nation from the front. Being a woman it’s a matter of immense pride for me to serve in the defence forces of India. Further, this is a profession that ensures all round development of a person, whether physical or mental and this has motivated me more to choose this as my profession”, says the young girl.
Conveying her message to the young students, inspiring them to join the armed forces, Sharmishta said, “This is a profession that ensures all round development of a person. Irrespective of your gender, you are capable of serving here. Hence, I want to motivate every student to be a part of this prestigious organisation”. Serving the Nation is a matter of pride, she added.
She thanked her family for always being there behind her back, motivating her as it could have been impossible without their support to attain her dream.
Reacting to the achievement of their daughter, young Sharmishta’s parents said, “It a really proud moment for us as from the very beginning she has been a different child. She used to recite Tagore’ poem and Dr S Radhakrishnan speech at the age of three and got many prizes from different functions. Her quality of grasping, observing things and impeccable efficiency of endurance helped her achieve this feat”.
