MUMBAI: A 39-year-old man died after a portion of the ceiling of his house in Bhayander town near Mumbai collapsed and fell on him on Monday.
This was the third incident of slab portions of old and dilapidated buildings collapsing in the Mira-Bhayander region in less than a month. In the earlier two incidents, there were no injuries.
Komi Britto was in his flat, on the first floor of Rose Villa Apartment in Bakul Street, Bhayander (West). The ceiling portions fell on him and he sustained serious head injuries.
He was taken to hospital where he later succumbed. The structure was a dilapidated one.
On May 18, the first floor slab of a building in Mahesh Nagar, Bhayander (West) came crashing down on the ground floor. No one was injured in the incident.
On June 10, the fourth floor slab of Sai Palace building in Bhayander (East) collapsed. No casualties were reported in the incident.
Both the buildings have been taken up for demolition.
