MUMBAI: Maharashtra chief minster Uddhav Thackeray on Monday flagged off the trail run for Metro 2A and Metro 7 corridors, which run along the Link Road and Western Express Highway in Western suburbs of Mumbai.
The commissioning of both the lines is planned in 2 phases. The first phase (20 km) between Dahanukarwadi to Aarey (18 stations) is expected to open in October while the entire corridor is expected to open in January 2022.
The maiden trail run commenced from Aakurli Metro station on Western Express station after it was flagged off by Thackeray, who was accompanied by deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, urban development minister Eknath Shinde, tourism minister Aaditya Thackeray and others.
“The oscillation trial of prototype six-car rake will be conducted on Line 2A (Yellow line) and Line 7 (Red line) at various speeds. The sub-systems, other equipments will be tested under dynamic conditions. Integration with signaling, telecom and Platform Screen Doors will be tested along with different safety tests,” said Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) spokesperson.
Once the oscillation trails are completed, the train-set will then be offered to commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) for inspection and certification.
A total of 10 train-sets will be available by October, 2022. The commercial operations are planned in October, 2021 in this stretch (Dahanukarwadi to Aarey via Dahisar) on both lines.
While Metro 2A is 17.5km long, Metro 7 that runs between Dahisar and Western Express Highway metro station, is having a length of 18.6 km.
The spokesperson said, “Nearly 93 per cent of the civil works for both these lines have been completed and system works are on-going in full swing. The entire network is expected to be ready for testing and trials by the end of December, 2021.”
Both these Metro lines were sanctioned by state government on October 6, 2015. The Bhoomipujan was performed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 11, 2015.
As of now only one line of Metro (Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar) is operational in Mumbai. This 12km long east-west Metro corridor was opened in June 2014.
