Navi Mumbai: Vigilance vehicle that collected booze is of APMC | Navi Mumbai News

NAVI MUMBAI: A preliminary inquiry done by the NMMC with regards to the controversial complaint that an official Vigilance squad vehicle was used to collect liquor bottles from a wine shop in Vashi, has concurred that the staff vehicle belonged to the APMC market, and not NMMC as believed earlier.
The municipal commissioner, Abhijit Bangar provided a photograph of the vehicle with the number plate MH43D-8191 that belonged to APMC market.
The civic chief was reacting to the complaint of RTI activist Anarjit Chauhan who had informed that a civic vigilance squad car was misused to take several liquor bottles from a Vashi based wine shop in sector 17.
“I had provided the correct vehicle registration number to the NMMC, so that action is taken on those vigilance squad officials who illegally took booze from the wine shop on Saturday evening. So now, one thing is confirmed that a government vehicle was used to commit this illegal act during lockdown period.”
The civic body will now further probe this matter.
Meanwhile Chauhan added: “It was previously mistaken that the vehicle involved belonged to NMMC. Anyhow, the civic inquiry must be completed to take action against the violators as it is still a serious offence.”
