OPS opposes move to merge TRB with TNPSC | Chennai News

CHENNAI: Former deputy chief minister and AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam on Wednesday urged chief minister M K Stalin to give up any decision to merge Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) with Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC).
In a statement, Panneerselvam pointed to media reports and said the closure of recruitment board would only result in delay in filling the vacancies of teaching staff in the state.
“In the event of entrusting the job with the TNPSC to fill lakhs of vacancies, it will end up getting problems like lack of staff and infrastructure. Doubts have arisen in the minds of the people as to whether the recruitment board is being dissolved because it was set up by former chief minister M G Ramachandran,” Panneerselvam said.
He recalled setting up of Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation (TNPHC) by MGR, which was later merged with Tamil Nadu Housing Board by the successive DMK regime. In 1991, the AIADMK government led by Jayalalithaa again separated the TNPHC to speed up housing projects for police personnel.
