Two men dressed in PPEs loot police constable’s house in Thirumullaivoyal | Chennai News

CHENNAI: The city police on Tuesday appealed to the public, especially women, to not encourage people, who claimed they were from the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) without valid ID cards. The appeal was made after a theft incident was reported in Chennai’s Thirumullaivoyal.
Two unidentified men, dressed in PPEs, visited the house of a police constable on Monday claiming that they were from the GCC and had come over to collect swab samples from the family.
The constable Dharmaraj’s wife, who was pregnant, and his four-year-old son were at home when the duo approached them.
Stating that they will be collecting her swab sample, the two men inserted a small cotton ball into the woman – Chandralekha’s, 24, — nose.
Within a few seconds she fell unconscious and the duo fled away with 10 sovereign gold jewellery and Rs 40000 from the house.
Chandralekha, who woke up after 30 minutes, found the main door open and valuables in the almirah missing. She immediately alerted the neighbours and her husband, who informed the Thirumullaivoyal police.
The family stayed at the police quarters in Thirumullaivoyal.
Dharmaraj works at the third battalion in Tamil Nadu Special Police (TSP), Avadi.
An investigating officer said that the two men told the victim that they were giving preference to pregnant women as they cannot visit a hospital for testing.
Chandralekha told the police that she was not able to recollect the men’s identity as they covered their faces with face shields and masks. They appeared to be in their mid-30s.
Police are currently checking the CCTV footage from the adjoining buildings to know their identity.
Police also suspected that the two men might be history-sheeters, who might have observed the movements of the family and targeted them.
